It's Football Season

I love watching football...but not Canadian football.

I've got nothing against Canadian football, sure I support our Montreal Alouettes every Friday night while everyone else watches Ghost Whisperer, I'm watching the Alouettes, but I prefer American football.  I think it has something to do with the rules or how the points are scored, or that I just hate the annoying advertisements the Canadian teams have sewn to their uniforms that really tick me off, I dunno, but the American sport is more entertaining than the Canadian stuff.  The uniforms are all the same so it has nothing to do with who has the better fitting pants on ;-)  But like I said, I support the Montreal team... the current Grey Cup Champs even if they did win because the other team had too many men on the field so they were able to re-do the field goal they'd just missed.  Kind of like a real wonderful do-over eh!  But they really do play very well.

This year I was forced to "pick a team" to support in the American league.  See, my husband is a big Dallas Cowboys fan, always has been and even tells me I'm not allowed to talk when the game is on or I'll have to leave the room.

Man's got nerve eh.

Anyway, this year I picked a team.  This year I'm supporting the Minnesota Vikings, simply because Bret Favre should have retired but didn't so I'm going to cheer him on... for this year only though, next year we'll have to see.  Having said that, Hey Vikings you better kick ass when you play against the Cowboys, if I have to get heckled in my own home, there's going to be hell to pay!

Reading Rainbow

I finally had enough airmiles to get a free subscription to Chatelaine magazine.  I never used to care much about forking over my airmiles card unless the sales clerk asked for it.  Eventually I ended up with 75 points.  Not much but enough to get that magazine subscription.

I'm just sitting back watching the clock waiting for it in the mail.  Six to eight weeks is an awful long time eh... just saying.

So the other day while I was in the drugstore, I treated myself to Canadian Living and Good Housekeeping magazines!  Yes!  I splurged!!!  An impulse buy!!!!  Or should I say two impulse buys!!!!  I mailed in the coupon for a subscription to those as well.  I'm hooked.  I love those magazines filled with recipes, cleaning tips, decorating ideas and real life articles.

I also discovered a place online where I could read Women's Day for free by downloading it in pdf format... oh the wonders of the internet.

Cross Stitch

I managed to stitch something for a friend at church.  A small pattern that was a freebie when I purchased some stuff on ebay.  Turns out, her friends and a few others at church are asking if I sell any of my stitching because they'd be really interested in buying!

I've never sold any of my stitching before and not sure I want to.  I just don't like stitching the same thing twice, so if someone wants the same thing I already made, I just don't see the excitement.  I won't mind stitching something and giving it away, as long as I choose the pattern.

I have many patterns I want to stitch but unfortunately not the time to get any of them done anytime before January.  That's right, I said January!  I'm up to my eyeballs with craft projects to complete for Christmas but once I'm done those I intend to dive into stitching those patterns and will decide on whether or not to sell them but I certainly refuse to stitch the same thing twice, it's annoying.  I've done that with only two patterns, one was a Precious Moments Miniatures pattern of a baby girl (stiched once for a co-worker for her first born, and then again for a church member for her first born), the next was a Precious Moments Miniatures pattern of a dancing ballerina (stitched once for my niece = on the right, and again for the grand daughter of a friend at church = at left on red fabric).

A Cut Above The Rest

I cut the tip of my left middle finger yesterday.  It hurt like heck.  I was using the dull scissors to cut the dead vines outside, thank the Lord I was too lazy to get the sharp scissors in the kitchen, I got distracted as my short attention span goes, and snipped the tip of my finger.  I thought I was going to collapse when I saw the blood.  Doctor Tony took good care of me though but oh boy is it difficult to type with a bandaid on my fingertip.

Drop Off

I was pretty surprised to realize I dropped a couple of pounds this week.  Must be the fear I have of eating real food!  My pipes been acting up so I've been eating oatmeal, fruit and vegetables all week long.  I'm fitting into my jeans a bit more comfy too.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining... I'm bragging!

September Rain

The beginning of September started off hot... heatwave hot much to my dismay though most folks would thump me in the head for complaining.  Anyway, these past couple of days it's been cool and rainy.  I won't go so far as to say cold because it's the type of weather I actually enjoy.  I love autumn even though technically according to the calendar, it's still summer until Tuesday.

I had a couple of errands to run today so rain or not, I ventured out.  Took my umbrella and was dressed pretty warm, had on the ipod for my walking music set to the playlist of "funkydisco" which is a combination of the funk and disco genres so yep, I was strutting to the tunes of the 70s and 80s.   Michael Jackson had it right on target with Billy Jean, especially in the video where he's strutting along... yup that was me today!

While I was out, since I have a good ole expensive bus pass, I jumped a ride to the outdoor market.  They had a sign up that said they'd be closing on November 7th.  The sign was in french so I barely understood what else it said.  I do know that whenever it closes, within a week it becomes a Christmas tree lot that smells real pretty.

Anyway, I picked up an eggplant at the market along with some strawberries.  The Temptation Tuesday blog of chocolate covered strawberries was on my mind so you know for sure I dug out the fondu set to give into that temptation!  shh don't tell anyone!

Monday At The Market

Even though it was a rainy day today, I took a trip to the local outdoor market.  Not quite in my neighbourhood but it's really the only one that I prefer to shop at.  The prices are always pretty good, and the fruits & veggies are always fresh and without those yucky rotten mold spots.  Today's special was a basket of sweet bell peppers.  For three whole Canadian dollars, I picked up a basket of about 12 peppers and the best part is they were multicolour not just all green or all red, but an assortment of all four colours!!

And the crowd says oooh.... ahhhhh....

I'm thinking with this new purchase I should make stuffed peppers.  Oh I'm drooling already!  But not tonight, we're having leftovers for dinner = waste not, want not.

I also picked up a 10 pound bag of potatoes, some carrots, a stalk of celery to snack on though I would have preferred some gummy bears or even pringles chips but I'm trying to keep my pipes from backing up so healthy eating it is.

The market also had a jumbo basket of apples for three whole Canadian dollars!  But I didn't buy any.  I was unable to carry them so maybe tomorrow on my treck about the city I may venture on over and pick some up.... they're great for fiber you know!

A Minute In Susan's Mind

It's been quite some time since I've had a candy apple.  Truth be told, I'm afraid that if I bite into one I may pull a tooth.  But I'm greedy enough not to care!

Spiderfobia

Last week, every morning on my way in from work, I walked through a spiderweb along my front walk. Very annoying to have that little piece of thread wrap itself along my face or bare arms first thing in the morning.

Aside from annoying, very frightening if the spider is still attached. *shivers in fear*.

Yesterday morning I slowly walked up the walkway and there it was - the biggest spider on the biggest web I ever laid eyes on. I don't even know how that thing constructed a web with bushes on both sides of the walkway, what happened, was he blown over and strung up a web in the process of trying not to end up on the front lawn?

So this morning I slowly, very slowly walked up the front walkway. I had an umbrella in my hand so I stretched it out in case I seen the spider that's been stalking me, so I could avoid walking through the web but it wasn't there.

No spider.

No web.

I came into my home and went into the kitchen to put on the kettle...
IT WAS ON THE SIDE OF MY FRIDGE! Ya, I screamed like a girl real loud and all. Ran and grabbed the can air freshener (had no raid) and sprayed it. Chased it along the floor beside the deep freezer, but it got away and ran under the fridge.

I'm afraid of the kitchen now. Terrified actually.

Autumn Scents

Usually about this time I begin the hunt for an autumn scented candle.  Last year I had some small candles that had the scent of "autumn leaves" or so the label on them stated.  They smelled nice but since I don't know what autumn leaves smell like, never went into the yeard to smell the leaves but then again lots of dogs up round here so you know, not going to do no sniffing anytime soon, not sure what's hidden beneath the leaves if you know what I'm saying.

I'd prefer a pumpkin scented candle but almost often end up with the pumpkin pie scent.  Still smells real nice.  I had a pumpkin scented candle once a few years back when I stumbled on it while browsing a store with my sister but since then only been able to find pumpkin pie.  They smell nice, not sure if it smells like pumpkin pie though never baked a pumpkin pie so can't compare but it does smell nice.  Maybe this year I'll make a pumpkin pie, made pumpkin cookies last year and they tasted fabulous.

I think this year I'll take my search for a pumpkin scented candle online and hope I don't get ripped off and end up with an orange candle that smells like melting crayon.

Graded B+

Alright, a gal just can't cut a break around here eh!  Sheesh.  Sometimes I really have to wonder why I have the "friends" that I have.... yep, I put you in italics so there!  :-p

I've received a B+ on the redecorating of this crazy space and now *rolls eyes* I'm being told to put a bunch more (annoying) widgets.  sigh.

Is there a widget to make her shut the heck up?

Feng Sue

Alright, now I finally got around to redecorating this blog layout so now you can get off my back.  I used the new Blogger Design tool that I was so reluctant to use before.  I'm not 100% happy with how this thing work because I don't know how to use it 100% most likely.  User problems as per usual.  Anyway, I've already spent too much time on here so I'm going to have a coffee now and maybe just maybe I'll come back and fix it up a bit.

Etsy

It has been suggested that I open up a store on Etsy.  I've only just not long signed up on there not really to sell anything or to buy anything either unless there was something that really REALLY caught my eye.

I'm not such an on-line-buyer.  I prefer to physically go into a shop, manhandle the merchandise then debate whether or not I want to part with my hard earned cash like the cheapskate I am.  I've shopped on ebay quite a bit in the past and got shafted not once but THREE times!!!!!  *grumbles*  I've shopped there in the recent months, not enough to gain a "yellow star" but enough to get what I wanted.

This etsy thing is a place for me to sell the stuff I make and I've got a whole lot of home made christmas decorations I've got to unload.  Sure they're used, they've hung on my tree many times in the past but last year they stayed in the box on the shelf in the closet.  I'm not sure I'll even sell anything, may just turn out to be a waste of money since I have to pay twenty cents to advertise one item.  Not sure if it's twenty cents per month for 4 months or $0.20 for the whole 4 months.  I'll have to look into that stuff but this weekend I need to get that stuff out of the closet, photographed and uploaded...

That's a whole lot of work for someone who intended to have a quiet restfull weekend.... and on top of that I have to finish a stitching I'm doing for a lady at church for THIS SUNDAY!!!

*graps paper bag*   Inhale... exhale... inhale... exhale...

A Minute In Susan's Mind

Sigh... well the weekend is finally here.  A long weekend usually means a long list of things to do.  Today I should get the groceries done but probably won't.  I should also get to the dry cleaners but probably won't do that either.  I should go through my email but not sure if I really WANT to do THAT!

The Drama Llama

These past couple of days were really hot and humid.  Here I was thinking fall was on it's way as the temperatures cooled down nicely.

Boy was I so wrong.

Not only is this humidity tough on my lungs.

Ugh!  It's so darn difficult to breathe.

It's also taking it's toll on my hair!  Eeek!

Since my last hair cut back at the end of February, which I won't discuss right now because my therapist says it's all behind me and I should let it go I've let my hair grow in.  Oh sure I've taken the scizzors to it every now and again myself, the way I see it is why pay for a bad haircut when I can give myself one for free!  Ok so seriously, the cut wasn't as bad as I thought, just a whole lot shorter than I intended, but not "BAD".  Anyhow, it's growing in nicely too if I may say so... and it's at that difficult stage where it should be winter so I can wear a hat it's just plain difficult to deal with.

Oh the drama!

Yesterday I plugged in the curling iron and gave it some nice curl.  Broke a sweat while doing that too, that's how hot and humid it was!  Well, that humidity took the curl right out of my hair so I had to sport a headband to push it off my face.  Last night, I figured hey I work night shift, ain't nobody going to see me ride the bus in the dark and those at work will be too high on caffeine to care.  When Tony walked me to the door last night as I left for work he was sweet enough not to say anything about the birds nest on my head.  So I basically looked a hot mess as per usual.  Can't wait for the cooler weather so I can get my head looking descent.

HGTV and Me

Lately I've been watching HGTV alot.... and I mean ALOT!  When I'm not watching Let's Make A Deal, I'm watching Buy Me or Rent Me on HGTV.  Problem with me watching these shows are that I get all excited when it's a feature on some place here in Montreal so instead of paying attention to the show itself, I spend most of the time looking in the background to see if I can spot familiar places, buildings and things.  I guess it makes me feel like I know the star of the show or something real stupid like that.  Anyway, at least I got over my obsession with TLCs show Say Yes To The Dress.

September

I figured since it's now already September may as well post something September-worthy.  The Earth Wind & Fire hit was the first thing that popped into my mind but then I stumbled on pomplamoose music.

Hey, isn't pomplamoose french for grapefruit?

Anyway, there's a drum playing muppet and a dancing grandma in it, let me tell you I was floored at how well grandma can dance... way better than me.

Seriously!
