Fishing Weather

This morning was quite foggy out. I remember when I was a kid and one summer we went to Nova Scotia to spend our summer visiting our grandmother. My dad woke up real early one foggy drizzly morning and we went fishing. He used to say that foggy mornings were the best time to fish because they won't see you coming! It was foggy enough this morning that I couldn't see too far up the street. Should have gone fishing!

Being the noseyparker that I am, I was eavesdropping on a conversation on the bus this morning and two women were discussing a grasshopper.  From what I over heard with my nosey self, one of them just got back from vacation and was telling the other about her encounter with a grasshopper and she sounded serious!  Can't say as I blame her, I've had run-ins with grasshoppers too!  Those bugs don't play!  Truth be told I wouldn't be surprised if I meet my demise via grasshopper!  Seriously!

Remember last year when Tony and I were on our way to church and stopped at a stop sign when a grasshopper jumped onto the windshield.  If I were driving, that would have been the end of me (and any pedestrians crossing the road at that time) because I screamed at the top of my lungs but as per usual, Tony had zoned me out and disaster was avoided.

Then there was a few years back when my sister and I were taking a short cut across the train tracks.  A larger than life grasshopper jumped at me... not on me, but at me... BIG difference.  Either way I ran screaming through the bushes and out the broken fence on the other side .... INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET because there was no sidewalk since technically there was a fence blocking the tracks from the road.  Lucky for me the light was red so the CITY BUS was caught at the light or I'd have been toast!  Disaster was avoided, again.

Count that as two strikes.....

1. What is something that bothers you if it is not done perfectly?

Cleaning up!  I can't stand it if something isn't cleaned up properly!  It bugs me not because I usually end up re doing it, but if I ignore it the chances of my mom picking that particular moment to drop by will increase tenfold (it's written in murphy's law).

2. What is one of your best childhood memories?

Christmas!  Christmastime holds all of my best childhood memories I can't just pick one because they all revolve around Christmastime.

3. Do you plan to watch the Royal Wedding and when was the last time you wore a hat?

OF COURSE I PLAN TO WATCH THE ROYAL WEDDING ARE YOU KIDDING!!??  As far as wearing a hat goes, unless my ugly winter hat or the baseball cap my brother gave me that says "I'm not 40 I'm 39.99", then I haven't worn a hat in a while!

4. Where do you fall in the birth order in your family? Do you think this has influenced your personality?

I'm the spoiled rotten to the bone baby-la-la last born!  I don't think it influenced my personality because sometime, actually most of the time, I feel like I should have been the first born!

5. Where do you think you spend most of your money?

Where do I spend most of my money?  At the bank!!  All the bills get paid there!

6. When you need to confront someone would you rather communicate in person, on the phone, by email or by letter? Why?

I'd rather communicate in person because body language speaks loud!  Over the phone someone could be saying everything is ok and the confrontation is resolved meanwhile they're rolling their eyes.  Emails & letters come back to bite you in the bum if you get somewhat annoyed and write something mean, it ends up being held over your head foreverrrrrrr..........

7. Dodge ball, freeze tag, kickball or jump rope? You have to pick one.

Jumprope.  I always got nailed playing dodgeball.  Got kicked in the shins playing kickball.  Never heard of freeze tag. ??

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Why is it that every time I get to the last question and need to insert a random thought, my mind suddenly goes blank!  I don't get it!  Usually my mind is going nonstop with one mindblog after the next but then I get to "insert your own random thought here" and POOF!  ...all gone!

I Copied You!

I copied you and I ain't ashamed to admit it!  There I said it!

I don't know why I didn't think of this before... see there's another reason to read other people's blogs... YOU GET IDEAS!

I've been taking the Project 365 photos with my ipod most of the time and it also has wifi which means I can easily upload the photo a day at  a time .... duh!  Like I said, WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS BEFORE.... well that's easy, because I've been too busy trying to figure out how to post my mindblogs directly from my mind to my blog (so far no progress has been made on that just so you know).

I'm going to post the P365 photos on a separate blog that will be linked here ... sounds good in theory don't it?  What are the chances of me getting it to work?  (slim to none eh! LOL).  But then again, in theory, I'll actually be able to post a photo a day... no mindblogs but like I said, that's still a work in process.

Project 365: Apr.17-23

Project 365 button designed by
I didn't do too bad this week.  Managed to keep up with taking a photo a day.  Nothing much of great interest because I had a head cold this week and felt like someone had a plastic bag over my head most of the time.   I'm feeling much better now, sortof, but not complaining because there were times when I've had the flu and worse so...nope, no complaints from me ... praise God it was ONLY a head cold!

Ok, so here's how the week went:

Sunday April 17.

I completed the cross sitch and gave it to our pastor.  He loved it!  Turns out his wife also does counted cross stitch so she and I will have to get together and talk crafts!

Monday April 18

Apparently my hair was suffering from the headcold too... this was my shadow when I woke up.  Not sure if it's funny or scary!

Tuesday April 19

I had a craving for Fig Newtons.  When I was a kid I remember Dad always had these in the cupboard.  He loved fig newtons.  I thought of him when I picked up a bag.  Gotta give him a call later.

Wednesday April 20
Sunrise was a beauty!  I heard so many birds I should have recorded it, next time perhaps.  I also saw a red cardinal... wow.. don't see too many of those around here.  It's the second time IN MY LIFE that I've seen one of those for real!

Thursday April 21

Finished another ornament I had to stitch for my Uncle.  I had eleven to stitch and only one remains.  Will be giving them to him next Saturday.  This one had a photo of my grandparents in the heart, I turned it around for photographing though.  This was the christmas ornament I made for family members in 2005.

Friday April 22.

Took all the cookies I baked this week over to the church.  Easteriffic festivities were held Friday afternoon for children.  I baked all week, these are the peanut butter cookies in a big plastic tub.  I also made the ususal chocolate chip.  We ended up taking over about 8 containers of cookies.

I was so exhausted though, had finished work late, got home around 7:30am, went to bed and the alarm woke me at 10:30 to get up.  We took the cookies to the church at around 11:30 and then came home.  I barely made it up all the steps when we returned home that's how tired I was.

Saturday April 23
It's really early, only just after noon.  Woke up early,  blah blah blah, now I'm about to finish this last ornament which will take a whole of 15 minutes then I'll be finished all the ones for my uncle!  This was just the reindeer head (not the whole bookmark), it was the one I made for family members in 2000.

and there you have it!

A Minute In Susan's Mind

All the mindblogs I composed today were gone by the time I hit the keyboard.  There's got to be a way that I can telepathically transmit my mindblogs to my blogspot.

Maybe I should contact Steve Jobs over at Apple.  He came up with the iPhone, iPod AND iPad so now all he needs to do is invent the iPling.

iPling??  *shrugs shoulders*   I'm sure he can come up with something better to call it.

Thankful Thursday: April 20

Thankful ThursdayI'm thankful for my job.  It sort of got on my last nerve for a second tonight but that turned out to be nothing that couldn't be soothed with an Oh Henry chocolate bar.  I was able to purchase the Oh Henry chocolate bar at a rediculous price of an arm and leg over at the depaneur with earnings from the job I am so thankful for.  I'm thankful for that expensive little corner store too because if it wasn't open then I wouldn't have been able to spend a kings ransom on that chocolate bar that I so desperately needed.

I'm thankful for birds.  This week I took the long way home from work so that I could walk through the quiet neighbourhood while everyone was either still in bed or just waking up, the birds were already awake and singing their glorious songs.  So was the squirrel that sat atop the recyclebin.  The lid was down so the squirrel couldn't dig through it and he wasn't happy about it so he was making some kind of screeching noise.

Many thanks to The Bug and Greg for Thankful Thursday!

Top 2 Tuesday: Things You Collect

Top 2 Tuesday, brought to you by The Undomestic Momma.

This week's topic is: Things You Collect.

1. I used to collect CLOWNS!  Anything clowns!!!  At one point I had well over 500 pictures, dolls, figurines, decks of playing cards, cups, mugs, plates, dinner plates, bells, stationery, stickers, cookie jars, salk & pepper shaker... you name it, I probably had it if it had a clown on it!  Most of my collection is boxed up now and in storage.  All that's on display a clown cookie jar (that doubles as a candy dish), a few figurines and one large painting.

2. Craft supplies!!  Yup, I collect craft supplies, anything relating to plastic canvas and counted cross stitch.  I have a pretty descent collection of kits purchased on ebay.

And there you have it!

Road Rage

I'm never surprised when I hear on the news some crime related to road rage occurred.

This weekend while I was out doing some errands, I hear some car horns beeping which caught my attention.  I glanced over to where the noise was and I see car number one trying to make a right turn and car number two was annoyed that it got in their way of speeding up the street that she leaned on her car horn then proceeded to give the finger to the other driver!  I was shocked!

Why are people in such a hurry?  This woman tried hard to prevent the other car from making the turn, enough to the point that she pulled her car this close to the other one as it turned!  If she was in such a hurry why not let the car turn and be done with it?  I can't imagine what summertime will bring once all the road construction and detours begin.

Project 365: catching up!

Alright, so Gina over at My Life In A Blog, gave me a kick in the butt and got me back on track with the Project 365 A Picture A Day which is hosted by Sara at Make Music From Your Heart To The Lord .
So as I mentioned, or may have mentioned, due to user problems I lost some of my pictures.  Taking one photo a day is harder than it seems especially for me.

Project 365 button designed by
Ok so I'm going to sum up everything from when I last posted a P365 until now then I can start fresh from there.  Sounds like a plan! Let's hope I stick to it.

On Wednesday March 2. (thank heavens the pics have dates to nudge my memory!) I took this photo of St.Joseph's Oratory with the sun rising behind it!  The annoying streetlight messes up the photo but the Oratory is one of my favorite places.  I always try to spot it since it sits on a mountain and can be seen from so many places within Montreal.  A must-see if you ever visit Montreal!

Thursday March 3rd.

I finished this stitching I did for the daughter of one of our church members.  She was amazed when she received it and asked if I sold them!  I don't specifically because I don't like to stitch the same thing twice (though this is the second time I've done this pattern!).

Friday March 4th

I ate two breakfast bars.  As you can see, one of them was left in the locker for me by my sister (she put a sticker that says "4U" on it)

But don't let me off the hook too soon.  It may look like I ate healthy but I soon gave into cravings and had that bad fast food.  A McChicken, Fries, Rootbeer and Chocolate Sunday.  Hours later my internal pipes were not "lovin it"!!

Monday March 7th

We had snow!  Lots of it!  Look how it piled up on the balcony.  Sigh.

Wednesday March 16th

The previous snowfall started to melt because it rained!  It got so foggy I had to snap this photo of St.Joseph's Oratory!  The dome is missing!!!!!  All that fog covering the dome really creeped me out!!

Saturday March 19th

I met with my sisters for breakfast and on my way I stopped off at the outdoor market that just opened for another season!  They didn't have much, mostly maple syrup, maple candies and a few fruits but it was still a great surprise to see it open!

Later that night I went bowling with our church ladies group. Tony drove me to the bowling alley and I convinced him to stay the more the merrier. (see him at left bowling.  The little lady beside him was killing us with one strike after another... ouch!)

When we left, we noticed the full moon.  That night the moon was supposed to  be a "super moon" or something like that, real low and real big.  This photo doesn't do it justice but oh how I stared at it for a long time marvelling in it's beauty.  Only God could create such a splendor!

Tuesday March 29th

I finally got around to snapping a photo of the christmas lights that someone still had turned on!  I was beginning to think they were on a timer because nobody in their right mind would actually plug them in every night THREE MONTHS AFTER CHRISTMAS!
(I cropped the photo.  See above the green street light, there's light in a window, it's a string of christmas lights)

Tuesday April 5th.

We had hail!  I tried to photograph it but failed miserably.  See my sad photo, all it shows is my beat up balcony with some roof tiles that flew off with the windstorm we had the day before!

Saturday April 9th

I'm almost done the stitching I'm doing for our church pastor.  I'll be finished it this week actually and giving it to him on Sunday!  I've just got to do the outline and then frame & finish it.  I had this kit for many years, bought it on Ebay and forgot I had it!

Sunday April 10th

A lady from our church invited me to a Tea Party!  I've never been to one but figured hey why not!  Unfortunately I didn't have a hat but I went anyway.  It was held in the church hall of another church so I had to google the directions on how to get there and of course I got lost!  LOL

They served finger food and of course, tea!  The ladies who did wear hats were paraded and voted for best hat based on creativity, simplicity and uniqueness.  One lady took it a step further and adorned her hat with colourful easter eggs and a bunny!  Too cute!

Tuesday April 12th

I finally finished our taxes!  Oh boy do I dislike math.  They are now in the mail.

Wednesday April 13th

Sunrise was a beauty!

But the last remnants of snow were not!  Problem with the melting snow is it reveals all the nastiness beneath it!

And there you have it!

Top 2 Tuesday hosted by The Undomestic Momma.

Top 2 Drinks (alcoholic or non)

I'll go for the non alcoholic thank you very much!

1. COFFEE!!!!!  that simply goes without saying!!

2. Lemon water.  I've got hooked on it and it's healthy too, so it should undo the damage that coffee is doing eh.  LOL

Meet Me On Monday Apr. 11

The Meet Me On Monday blog hop is hosted by Never Growing Old.  Hop on over and join in!
Questions:1.  Who would be your dream celebrity date?
My celebrity dream date would (still) be with Wesley Snipes (left).  I know, he's probably locked up right now for tax evasion, and he's not growing old gracefully either  but when I close my eyes I see BLADE.  He'll have to show up in his BLADE costume of course otherwise I'll be dumping him for Don Cheadle (right).

2.  Do you have any food restrictions?

I've got a food allergy that's not too dangerous.  But I also need to stay away from milk products for the same reason as Java (go to her page and read the TMI)

3.  How much time do you take to get ready in the morning?
I take about 45 minutes I suppose.  Once I roll out of bed, say prayers then jump in a shower, brush teeth, comb hair, throw on clothes (not necessarily ironed), grab some eggo waffles or toast and I'm good to go.

4.  Sausage or bacon?
Turkey bacon but not pork.  I don't eat pork.

5.  Do you Google, Bing or Yahoo?
I prefer Google, you get better results especially when looking for images.  Yahoo always throws you over to images found on flickr and that's all!  ugh!!

A Crafty Blog

I've been busy as a bee working on some craft items.  I've been going through all my pattern CDs and decided it's time to make some tissue box covers.  Why... I don't quite know why!  I'll probably just make them, photograph them then give them away at church.

I made this remote control chair quite some years ago out of plastic canvas.  I have the pattern to make the tissue box cover which resembles a sofa to match this chair, but when I make that I think I'll keep it!

I had quite a handful or christmas ornaments to make, 11 to be exact, from past years for a relative.  I'm down to the last 3, and they'll need to be completed before April 30th.  I'm confident I'll be done.

I'm also getting ready to stitch another angel belle.  I already made a white one and a pink one, now I've been asked for a blue one so I have to see when I can squeeze that one in!

I love how relaxing crafting can be.  I only wish I knew how to knit and crochet.

Top2Tuesday: songs on ipod

Top 2 Tuesday hosted by The Undomestic Momma.

Top 2 Songs on your ipod!

Now this is right up my alley!!!

The song with the most plays on my ipod is : I Refuse by Josh Wilson

The second most played song on my ipod is: Manifesto by The City Harmonic

Last week I finally finished going through our closets and dressers and recycling everything that either didn't fit or hasn't been worn in I don't know how long.

Last December when I blogged about christmas sweaters I recall stating how I'd love to get my husband in one.  Well.... while I was going through his stuff I stumbled on one that looked similar to the one this model is wearing in the photo!  I never seen him in it in all the years we were together or trust me I'd have photographed him in it!!  It went into the recycle pile along with the rest of the stuff because it was likely way too small to fit anyway but oh my imagination was running wild with that one!

We donated a lot of clothing to the Salvation Army since they were in very good condition and would be silly to throw away when someone could get use of them.

Friday, April 1, 2011

I was looking out my window yesterday, which by the way was a lovely sunny day, still cool cold but beautifully sunny, and I noticed the trees were starting to bud!  That gave me new hope that spring may actually arrive!

I'm always surprised at how the seasons transition.  Whether or not I'm looking at the same scenery or not, I enjoy watching the tree on our front lawn bud and bloom into big full leaves in spring then get so green in summer, change to yellow, red and brown in autumn then look sickly skinny and bare in winter.

The outdoor "farmers" market also kicks in this time of year.  The small one in the neighbourhood I work opened up, selling maple syrup and maple candies along with some fresh fruit.  Later on when (if??) the weather heats up they'll begin selling planting flowers, herb plants and hanging flowers too.  Summertime they're open 24hrs selling fresh fruits and vegetables, in the autumn the pumpkins and vegetable harvests and yes, the candied apples!!!  Then it turns into a christmas tree lot and closes late on christmas eve and turns into a parking lot, then a large lump of snow, then the snow melts, gets plowed back and the tent gets erected once again!

On my walk home I heard some birds but couldn't see them as it was still somewhat dark.  The morning sounds of the "early birds" before they get drowned out by the honking of car horns and voices in conversation.  I would have stopped in my tracks and stood there listening more but like I said, it was dark!  I hear the whisper of the wind during winter, now the songs of birds!

A friend showed me photos of flowers that are beginning to break through in her garden.  My hope for spring flurished like those flowers!

I remember last spring when tulips were in bloom we had a minor snowfall that didn't do well by the blossoms. The snow melted quickly but some of the petals on the blooms were wilted or simply fell off.  I'm just anxious for gardens.  Right now most are still covered with tarps to protect the soil, and plastic bins over the small rose bushes.  Soon enough work will being on turning the soil or planting the spring blossoms.  In our neighbourhood it seems like everyone is in competition with everyone else to see who has the best flower garden and that's fine by me.  I don't plant a garden but I love taking walks and looking at and photographing everyone else's, so let the competition begin!  I can't wait to see the bare lawns be turned into colourful spectacles.
