Progress

I'm now on my fourth week of jogging.

I know, I know, I can't believe it either!

Usually by now I'd have called it quits and retired my lazy bum to the sofa with a bag of potato chips... preferrably Ruffles sour cream and onion flavor.

Even last Monday, when it was a long weekend and I had no reason to get up at 6:00AM, I got out of my cozy bed and threw on my jogging gear and hit the pavement for 30 minutes.

Yesterday I added 5 minutes to my jog and my shin splints are acting up so I'm massaging them with Rub A-535 extra strength.  I must admit though, I do look forward to the morning run even when it comes after a long ten hour night shift of work.

I'm even eating better.... the internal pipes are thanking me!  Not dieting though, just making some better food choices like snacking on fruits or yogurt or granola bars when I get that sweet tooth that I seem to get every hour on the hour.  Let's not count the cup of butterscotch ripple ice cream I had on Sunday night while watching television or the bag of twizzlers I had last night either.

I've lost a couple of pounds and my mom was kind enough to tell my my chubby chipmunk cheeks are gone.

Wow...

chubby chipmunk cheeks....

Truth comes out now eh!

A Minute In Susan's Mind

So I figured a way to get some, if not most of my mind blogs posted to my blogspot.

It occurred to me that I always have my iPod with me and it has email so I could just compose a mind blog in an email and POOF instant transferal of the mind madness.

I know this contraption has voice recorder too so if I can't get my thumbs going fast like the kids on the bus with their texting perhaps I can talk the blog to email.... There must be an app for that!

Blog Obsession

I was chatting with a friend discussing blogging and our reasons behind our blogging obsession.

Personally, I blog for the fun of it and nothing really else. Sure like most bloggers I enjoy getting comments but I don't cry if nobody leaves any. Its really no big deal. Besides I'm blogging because I have two cents to share alongside a slew of nonsense and sometimes something interesting to say.

We touched on private blogs versus public blogs. Public blogs are tough. You're reluctant to leave the comments section open because spammer Joe is hot on your trail along with the individual trying to sell you a designer handbag and that woman telling where you can find a millionaire to marry and let's not forget the "ex"-friend who wants to make your life miserable spewing all that drama ... I don't mind the word art security or the approval for comments but apparently my friend does! She reads lots of blogs but never posts a comment but she does click the reactions.

And did I mention that she loves getting comments?

WHAT!!!??

Bottom line to our conversation was leave a comment if you want one back but then that became a new debate. Sigh. I think it best to not put so much stress on yourself ... If you want to comment then do so if not then don't.
Alrighty then...she'll read this and we'll be on a hot topic all over again!

Wednesday Hodgepodge: Red White (Blue)

It's Wednesday's Hodgepodge... hosted by From This Side Of The Pond...
click the link,
follow her blog,
join the fun... really it IS fun!

This week's hodgepodge is Red White (and blue)...

 1. What is something about living in this country that you value? 'This country' is whatever country you call home.

Canada is diverse.  So many cultures, so many opportunities, and freedom.

2. What is a favorite something you own that is red white and/or blue?

I have a pair of red mittens my Grandma knit me as a christmas present a few years back.

3. Do you fly a flag at your house on patriotic holidays?

Nope...not outside anyway!  I may live in Canada but I'm in the province of Quebec.  Sure we have folks who fly the Canadian flag with it's lovely red maple leaf but there are also stories about those folks having their homes vandalized because it WAS the Canadian flag hung and not the Quebec flag with it's fleur de lis.  Quebec has many separatists who don't appreciate seeing the Canadian flag, it reminds them that they haven't won the referendum to separate from Canada.
I do have a small Canadian flag in my house though... where I can see it!

4. What ingredients do you think should be included in a great picnic basket?

It's been a while since I've been on a good picnic... the best one was many many moons ago when I visited my Grandma, we had bologna sandwiches, pound cake, fried chicken legs, macaroni salad and fruit punch.  There may have been more but I remember these items because they were delicious!

5. What is one interesting piece of trivia you know? Interesting is of course a relative term.
Large flies are female and lay about 500 eggs, little flies are the males and don't lay eggs.  All flies are annoying.  They can live up to 14 days and in those 14 day the big ones will lay eggs and multiply.
I beg you DON'T ask me how I know this... you really won't like the story.

6. Wednesday, May 24th is National Escargot Day...have you ever tried them? Eww or ooh?
Eww...  Escargot, isn't that french for snail?  *shivers*

7. What is something you know for sure?

Jesus loves me.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

The temperature in Montreal on Wednesday was 18*C (64*F), while at the same time last year the temperature in Montreal was 32*C (89*F).

A Trashy Blog

I came across this trash can the other morning and had to take a photo. You wouldn't believe that there isn't any litter on the ground save for the tiny piece at the base of the bin. Even though it's filled beyond capacity it's good to see folks still care about the cleanliness of the city and are still trying to toss the trash in the bin rather than litter.

Now if only the city would send a garbage collector to empty it!

Long Weekend

Monday May 23rd was a holiday - Victoria Day... Queen's birthday I believe.

In Montreal, perhaps all of Canada for all I know, it's the long weekend where all the planting and gardening happen. Proof is this photo with the fresh laid soil on what soon will be a beautiful flowerbed.

I'll try to get another photo next week.

Some gardens are completely planted and folks were out in droves Saturday picking up bags of soil, potting plants and flowers from nurseries. I still have to pick up a pot of flowers for outdoors.
I'm not planting morning glories this year since I failed miserably the past two years ...I know when to call it quits!

Unfinished Business

As of lately, my late Sunday night routine consists of watching television while listening to my iPod and crafting.

This Sunday was no different.

As you can see from the photo, I was working on stitching up some unfinished patterns I had cut out. This was last years christmas ornament... A figure skater but I had two left unfinished, a pink one and a dark yellow one. I always cut more than necessary especially if it's a pattern that allows for colour manipulation. I'm not sure who I'll give these two to but I'm sure I can figure that out later.  I finished off the pink dress with purple glitter fabric paint as the trim on her collar, cuffs and buttons.  Then I got tired and went to bed.

Friday five

What a wonderful morning this was.

1. First I experience the thick fog engulfing the oratory which I might add was real creepy. I'm not used to not seeing the cross atop the dome but this morning the whole oratory was hidden .

2. Then I went for my run and seen a bunch of baby squirrels rooting on the trash. I'm just glad they aren't on my yard. Remember the last incident I had with a squirrel...his skeletal remains are still on the ceiling.

3. After seeing the squirrels, a rabbit.. Or should I say a hare ran out on front of me.  I've never seen wild rabbits in the city!

4. Then I seen a fat raccoon... big guy too.

5. Last but not least I seen the most beautiful great Dane ever... and his name is Elvis!  It suits him too.  He was a beautiful glossy charcoal colour.

All Work & No Play

I've got pretty busy weekend coming up. It's a long weekend usually you'd see all the gardeners out in full force but the weather has been cool rainy and grey. I won't be doing any gardening but this long weekend does kick off spring cleaning! I've got a spare room that's been closed in all winter that needs freshening up with new bright curtains and open up the window and organize the craft supplies in there for starters.
I won't be doing any painting until summer. Hopefully by then the new kitchen floor will be installed.
A woman's work is never done!

Thankful Thrusday: May 19

Thankful Thursday

I'm thankful for my family... I know that's probably something that those who know me probably wouldn't expect me to say.  A while back when things went awry, I grumbled to God "why did you put me with this family".  I found myself grumbling it more often than not.  Eventually God decided to answer my question... and he took them away from me.... temporarily.

I was angry.

I was confused.

I was frustrated.

And I was lost without them.

Then God gave them back to me.  Then I understood why He put me here.

They complete me.

They had part in my evolution.

And so now I am thankful for them.  I'm thankful for the good, the bad and the ugly because each and every moment has strengthened me and helped me to grow.

I'm also thankful that God answers questions even when the question is rhetorical.

...Even when the answer isn't what you least expected.

I am thankful.

My 2 Cents On Yahoo

When I happen to be online, I enjoy reading the news headlines.  Not just the ones on the Yahoo home page, I'll read my local news paper and other sights that carry news. ... oh and yes entertainment news too.

Lately I've actually been reading some of the comments on the Yahoo news pages that users can post.  Some are an interesting point of view while others are hilarious and yet others are rude and ignorant.

Why Yahoo allows comments on serious news articles is beyond me.  Sure I'm all for free speach but if the comment is made by a person with a cartoon profile image and a name like "mrcool" then it makes me wonder if this person really has something worthy to say or is just passing time making snide remarks.

I've taken to reading some of the comments only on the entertainment or sports news and not the serious news (not that entertainment and sports aren't serious, don't get me wrong!)  I just find it really twisted when someone posts rude remarks to a post about flooding homes or other serious disasters.

However, when the comment is on a cute or funny article, I'm usually on the floor laughing because there are some hilarious comedians out there!  But then again, there are also the not so funny folks who bring race and other issues into a comment that end up having absolutely nothing to do with the blog post!  Anyway, that's just my 2 cents.

Shin Splints

The problem with jogging is I've got shin splints.  Apparently my legs haven't been used for much more than walking very slowly.  I actually had to google shin splints and find out what causes them and how to deal with them.

I got new running shoes on Friday and when I jogged on Monday, I only had pain when I was jogging, not so much while walking fast.  So I came home and googled that too...

What would I do without the internet?!

Meet Me On Monday May 16

Meet Me On Monday, hosted by Never Groing Old, a couple of quick questions to introduce ourselves to other bloggers.

Click her link, follow her blog, join the fun!!

This weeks questions are as follows:

Questions:

1.  Crunchy or smooth peanut butter?

I'm not picky when it comes to cruncy or smooth, it just always needs to be Kraft!

2.  What is your favorite color Rose?

I like yellow or pink roses, red ones are too intense.

3.  Do you remove your shoes when you walk into your home?

I remove my shoes BEFORE I walk into my home!  The rug outside the door is for removing them heavens forbid any nasty street dirt get inside...like mashed worms on a rainy day for instance!

4.  What is your favorite season?

Autumn is my favorite.  I love watching the leaves change, the sunsets seem to be lovlier, and the breeze in the air is just right.

5.  Approximately how many hours a day do you spend blogging?

Not enough!  I don't even spen one hour a day blogging..... not on a regular basis anyway.  Sometimes I'll spend a few hours composing blogs and scheduling them to post at different times and on different days but that doesn't mean I'm online.  Even though I am addicted to blogging, I don't spend my whole day on the blog.

Project 365: Apr.30 - May 15

Project 365 button designed by http://richgift.blogspot.com

I've been trying to update the P365, hosted by Make Music From Your Heart To The Lord, for a while now and been taking photos as much as possible.  I'm telling you, this should be a school project, I'm sure high school students would love to have an assignment like this!

Ok so let's stop stalling and get to the photos then.... though I was having fun stalling!  hee hee hee...

Saturday April 30th

I went by my aunt's home, and she already had beautiful tulips and dafodils in full bloom!  It was a beautiful sunny and mild day considering there's been so much rain.  I just had to snap a photo of her flowers, they were actually the first tulips I've seen in bloom this year!

===============

Sunday May 1st

I made this stitching for a lady at our church.  She loved it!  I always get hugs from her so I wanted to give her something she could cherish.

==========================

Monday May 2nd

While taking a stroll around our neighbourhood, I seen tulips starting to sprout.  Now you see why I was so surprised that my aunt already had her flowers in full bloom.  Around here it's still just greenery.

==================

Tuesday May 3rd

The rain is good for something I'll admit.  The tiny bushes that sat around naked the whole month of April are now in bloom.

=====================

Wednesday May 4th

The rain brought out the worms!  I seen so many worms on my way home Wednesday morning it started to gross me out!  They were all over the sidewalks, in the street, some were flattend by cars... nasty!  I wanted to throw up!  I tip toed around them because I didn't want any dead bug on my shoe.

================

Monday May 9th

This was my first day out jogging.  I am so way out of shape but I did it.. I got out there and jogged a little then power walked a little then jogged a little more.  I really need new shoes!

==============

Tuesday May 10th

The federal elections were on Monday May 2nd and by now the "vote for me" signs should be removed... well they're not!  Tuesday morning I saw a sign still up while driving by.  Look closely at the street post and you'll see it hanging there!

======================

Wednesday May 11th

Now that it's starting to feel a bit more like spring, the signs of spring are around too.  People are planting grass seeds and putting fresh soil on their grass edges where the snow plows always mess up.  That's a good sign that spring is here to stay (I hope).

=============

Thursday May 12th

I was headed to the grocery store and seen this lovely flowering tree.  I love these trees, the flowers blooming then they fall off and it looks like snow on the lawn... snow of flower petals!  It's hard on my nose though with my alergies in full bloom too!  *sneeze*

=================

Friday the 13th

So sad that as soon as spring arrives so do the weeds.  Look at this, bright yellow dandylions on the grass by the church.  I know the grounds keeper will take care of them but I got a snap of them first!

=====================

Saturday May 14th

Back to the rain!  It may seem like nobody is out and about but a busload of university students were standing behind me when I took this snap IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AFTERNOON.  It was so dark and dreary and grey out it looked like evening but it was the middle of the day!  I had just gotten my hair cut again... surprise surprise.... I went back to the short do... nobody liked my ponytail!

=======================

Sunday May 15th

Late in the evening after we returned from an evening service and had dinner and Tony went to bed, I was relaxing and watching television while listening to my ipod and stitching some plastic canvas ornaments.

Wednesday Hodgepodge: Moving Into Wednesday

Funny how this seems to be the one blog hop I'm seriously addicted to and complete on a weekly basis.  I should  be graded for my efforts! LOL

Wednesday's Hodgepodge hosted by From This Side Of The Pond....
click on her link,
follow her blog,
join the fun!

This weeks hodgpodge is "Moving Into Wednesday"

1. How many times in your life have you moved house?

If I count from what I can recall, going way back, when I was younger still living at home with mom, we moved five times that I recall.  We always lived in the same neighbourhood and sort of within walking distance from the old home to the new one but like I said, it was the same neighbourhood.  Then I moved out so that counts as number six and when I lived with Tony for 4 years in his old apartment then we moved to a new place (that makes number seven) and we stayed there for 4 years until it became too noisy for me and I wasn't getting a wink of sleep during the day, almost had a breakdown from lack of sleep for months! Then we moved to where we are now.  So I guess that makes eight times I've moved or at least that I remember because I'm going way back to childhood... surprising enough that I can even remember that far back. *chuckles*

2. What subject would you study if you had a year to devote to it?

I'd study French.  I'm born and raised in Quebec and technically should be bilingual since that's pretty much the only way you'll get a job!  I've got minimum french skills because the english schools have to teach it and you can't graduate without passing french.  Most english families put their kids in french schools so they'll grow up bilingual and have better opportunities without having to feel like you need to move out of the province.  Also, it would be nice to carry on a conversation with my nephew who is fluent in french and makes fun of me when I try to speak it!  I'd really like to show him up for once!

3. What in this world breaks your heart?

Homelessness and hunger.  When I see the news of third world countries my heart breaks but even more when I walk down the street and see people wrapped in blankets or old beat up sleeping bags in the alleyway.  Some of these folks simply lost their jobs which in turn caused them to lose their home, their security, and ended up living in shelters then on the street with nothing to eat, no place to sleep.  Seeing it on TV, I guess it seems unreal, like a movie, but seeing it with my own eyes right in front of me.... that's difficult.
4. What is one item that symbolizes the times in which we live? Why?

I would have to say the cell phone too... not just for calls either.  When I'm on the bus I see so many young folks on their phone but they are't talking... not really... they're TEXTING!  Thumbs going, giggling, smiling, mumbling to themselves but not making a phonecall.  I sort of feel sorry for parents today having the pressure of needing to purchase so many electronic gadgets (computer, cell phone, Nintendo DS, Gameboy) That's just how things seem to be now.
5. Share a favorite bumper sticker or t-shirt slogan.

A couple years back for my 40th birthday, my brother gave me a baseball cap that said "I'm not 40, I'm 39.95".  Just when I thought there was no way he could out do the tee shirt he gave me for my 30th birthday that said "I'm not 30, I'm 18 with 12 years experience"

6. How do you like your spaghetti?

I like my spaghetti with home made meatsause that has lots of hamburger, slice bits of beef sausage, vegetables, lots of garlic, hot chili peppers and topped with parmasean cheese.  Ok now I'm hungry!

7. What is one piece of advice you would give a recent or soon to be recent graduate?

A mind is a terrible thing to waste, so is a degree.... use it wisely, just don't waste it.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I'm rather tired tonight but am so high on the jogging I've been doing these past two days.  Yes only two days so far, my body hurts, it feels like some kids beat the pulp out of me but I'm so excited about getting in some better shape than the pear shape I'm currently in that I look forward to the morning jog.  I'm praying to keep the will power and the positive attitude about it and so far so good.  I think my biggest challenge will be the morning it rains and I have to get out there.  If I jump that hurdle then I'm good to go!

Phew, I did it!  I formed a random thought!!

2 Random Tunes

Two random tunes on my iPod

Dancing Machine by Jackson 5

I Look To You by Whitney Houston

Bixi Is Back

They're Back!!!

The Bixi is back for another year only this time around they seem to be everywhere... taking up two or three parking spaces on residential streets simply because a park is just around the corner or a university is a block away.  Annoying to folks who need the spot to park their car but convenient to the person who wants to ride a bike.

Bixi, the bike you love to hate!

I've never been on one.  The one time I wanted to use one, there were none at the docking station.  Not surpising though, I've heard too many complaints that when you rent one and get to where you're going, it's difficult to find a spot to dock it without getting charged more or you want to rent one and there's none.  The Bixi stands around the city are supposed to be rotated (have bikes moved from one crowded station to an empty one) but that doesn't seem to be happening to often or often enough for some.  Either way, it does seem like a good idea and it does get lots of use especially in the down town core near the college and univercity capuses.  So it'll continue to be the bike you love to hate!

Pain In The Butt

I never thought that jogging for as short a time as I did yesterday would make my butt fat muscles hurt so much.  Just the thought of walking a flight of stairs brings tears to my eyes.  I refuse to pick anything up off the floor because bending over is also quite painful.

No pain no gain I suppose but then again that was just the reaction to day one.  I'm getting ready to do day two and believe me, I'm pretty psyched up about it, sore butt and all!

Morning Exercise

This morning was my first day of jogging and let me tell you how out of shape I am!
I had made a short playlist on the iPod so that I could at least go until it plated out since there were only nine songs. I jogged for three songs then walked fast for three songs then jogged again for two songs. Basically the timer stop watch clocked me out for 34 minutes and some seconds. Not bad for day one.
We know how I dislike exercise so pray for me to keep the willpower to continue.

Just A Blog

It's just after ten pm and Tony is now asleep for work tomorrow while I am watching tv and getting a head start on this Year's Christmas ornaments...I already have two finished!...got seven more to do. I know that's really early but I have a nativity scene to complete this year too so let's get the easy stuff finished first.

I'm writing this blog on a tiny iPod screen if you can believe that! Tomorrow I begin jogging! I'm sort of excited but in the same time praying that I can keep the willpower because I tend to be lazy ... There I said it.

We spent the morning in church then got flowers for our moms and gave them each a visit to deliver the flowers then came home where I promptly fell asleep. It was a beautiful day!

Hope all the MOMs had a wonderful mothers day!

Early Bird Gets The Worm

Thes past couple of days it's been raining pretty much non-stop.  We had nice weather over the weekend but once Monday rolled around, on came the rain.  The temperatures are about 7*C during the early morning hours so add drizzly rain to that and some wind and it's pretty cold in my opinion.

Wednesday morning on my way home, I had decided to take a different route.  It took longer but I had my umbrella, my hat, mitts and was pretty much dressed for the coolness of the morning.  I also needed to clear my head and the fresh air helps with sleeping better too (then again so does a grey day!).

I was walking along thinking to myself how this type of drizzly foggy morning reminds me of the time dad and I went to Nova Scotia and we picked a morning such as this to go fishing.   I happened to look down and seen the biggest most disgusting looking worm ever!

Yes, I took THAT photo with my ipod to prove how huge it was!!

I almost stepped right on it... eeewww!!

I tip toed around it and wondered where were the seagulls and crows when you really need them!   I continued walking along my merry little way and noticed what looked like hundreds of worms easing themselves along the sidewalk and road.

I was truly grossed out at this point, nearly threw up in the street it.

It took me longer than usual to get home because I was tip toeing around all the worms.  Just the thought of stepping on even one of them and having nasty worm guts on the bottom of my shoe grossed me out big time.

I don't care what anyone says... Wheat thins are by no means a replacement for potoato chips.  And that's my rant for today thank you very much!

Wednesday Hodgepodge: May Day May Day

Wednesday Hodgepodge bloghop fun, hosted by From This Side Of The Pond
Click on her link,
Follow her blog,
Join in on the fun!!  Trust me, it's funner than it looks.  um... is "funner" a real word?

Anyway, here's this weeks round up:

1. Have you ever been served breakfast in bed? Do you enjoy that? If someone were serving you breakfast in bed this coming weekend what would you hope to see on the tray?

I don't much like breakfast in bed, would prefer to eat at the kitchen table so no, I've never been served breakfast in bed.  If someone were to serve me breakfast at the kitchen table this weekend I would hope it to be pancakes or a cheese omlet but it would be likely be boiled eggs and toast because that's all he knows how to cook.  *smiles*

2. What is one piece of advice you would give a new mother?

Make sure you have plenty of "aunties" around to change the diapers.  I know this because I was an auntie to my nephew and that messy smelly pampers!  (I don't have children so that's pretty much all the advise I can give!)

3. When was the last time you wanted to scream? Explain.

Last night.  Someone got on my last nerve and my options seemed to be scream, choke him or leave the room.  (FYI:  I left the room).

4. Can you hula hoop?

Sure I can hula hoop... not for long, eventually the hoop finds its way down my legs and to the floor and I'm certain it's a sight to behold - my out of shape hips fighting to keep the hoop up but hey, I can do at least 4 or 5 spins before it falls.

5. What is something people do in traffic that really bothers you?

It bugs me when people don't signal when turning.  I could be in a car and then suddenly the one in front turns off without warning or sits there and you have to figure out that he's waiting to turn or I could be crossing the street and nearly get run over because the car didn't signal for me to know if I should wait.  Frustrating!!
6. What do you do when people don't admit they're wrong?

I usually drop the subject.  When I encounter someone who is wrong and can prove it, and they refuse to own up to it, then I just drop the subject because it'll just end up in an arguement and even that won't get them to admit they're wrong so why waste my breath, better to save myself the headache.

7. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word 'fun'?

Junk food!  Fun always involves some sort of junk food.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb, Mary had a little lamb, it's fleece was white as snow!  ..........This question stesses me out ugghhh!!!!

Weird News

BARRIE, Ont. - A date arranged online went awry for a Barrie man when the woman turned out to be his current girlfriend.
When the 49-year-old woman arrived at a local coffee shop Saturday evening, Barrie police say she threw coffee in his face and slapped him.
An off duty OPP officer arrested the woman and called city police.  The woman was held for bail

Huh??? Believe it or not, that's a true story, even I can't make that stuff up!

Getting To Know You: May 4

Getting To Know You is a blog hop hosted by MannLand5, I have no clue what day this blog hop is scheduled for, likely on Sunday since that's when it was posted.  I stumbled in to it and even though today is Wednesday I figured better late than never eh!

Yes I sure did!  I loved it.  I watched it in re-run too!  I loved it again!!!

Coffee and a scone please!  Blueberry scones are tasty, coffee is devine!  What are crumpets???  *confused look on my face right now*

3 who's cuter..prince william or prince harry?

I think they're both cute in their own way.

4. can you speak in a english accent?

Ha!  Sure but it would make eveyone around me fall over laughing.

5. do you own a fancy hat?

Sad to say I do not own a fancy hat but I am looking to purchase a couple of them this summer.  Not summer sun hats, I'm talking pretty fancy smancy hats.  I went to a tea party recently and didn't have a hat to wear so I'm going on a mission to get a couple.

6. would you rather live in a castle or an english cottage?

I'd rather an english cottage, nice and cozy like the one in that movie "The Holiday".  That's what I could go for, not a castle, I'd be too freaked out.

7. how old were you when prince charles and princess diana got married?  were you even born?

Charles and Diana married in 1981, I was 12 years old when they got married and yes I remember watching it on tv.  I was like evey young girl then, daydreaming that it was me walking down the aisle in a pretty dress with prince charming.

8. have you found your prince?

Yup, I found my prince charming.  Married him and we're living happily ever after!
