Fridays Facebook

Oh what to do on a Friday night when you're bored out of your mind?

See, yesterday evening I was making dinner and sitting at the kitchen table while the food cooked, having a cup of green tea and being real bored otherwise and just beginning to read a new book.

As I stated before, my ipod is app central and yes, it contains the facebook app which I engaged on Friday night.  I tuned in and checked out the feeds from family and friends I'm connected with, looked at some photos, posted a few comments and liked a few written by others and that's when the fun started.  Family and friends were online also and we had a back and forth.  It was as if they were seated around the kitchen table with me.  Every time my ipod dings and displays a new notification I giggled and made my reply....  A great time of conversation with family both in Canada and in the USA.

Back On My Horse

I'm here today because I've fallen off my horse and blogging will motivate me to get back on.

Don't be!

I'm talking about the "get myself in shape" kick I've been on.  Sure all those lovely little apps have helped me big time... but this week... ok technically it's only Wednesday so only really three days have passed and in those three days I've only done one good day of exercise and three good days of eating everything I got my hands on!  But I have an excuse.

Ok so techincially I shouldn't have any excuses.

But I broke out in hives this week!  This is my pity party and you've been coridially invited to attend!!

I've got a food allergy and this past weekend I went out to dinner with my sister and accidently ate something I'm allergic to.... and I broke out in hives in a small area on my cheek.  Then Monday afternoon I noticed the small area on my cheek expanded to the side of my face and up to my temple.  By Monday night it was along my chin and heading to the other cheek and along my forehead.

It was red.

It was a bad hives rash.

It itched like crazy.

It burned like fire (I asume fire because I never lit my face on fire but if I had I believe it would have felt like it did just the other day).

I took Benedryl OTC allergy medication.  Cleansed my face with antibacterial soap and applied Zinc Oxide ointment to it from time to time to ease the itching and to keep my face from completely drying out.  Most of the time though I did allow my face to dry out so the pores wouldn't be clogged with cream.  My forehead felt so stiff.  I wonder if that's what it feels like to have botox?  Probably!  *shrugs shoulders*

By Tuesday my face was still red, still burning, and still itchy but slowly it was healing.

Today, Wednesday it's looking much better.  Still a bit itchy in spots but getting better.  The Benedryl has me completely doped up and believe me when it says "may cause drowsiness"  they in fact mean IT WILL DOPE YOU UP AND KNOCK YOU OUT!  ..... and give you the case of the munchies.

I ate jube jubes, chocolate covered raisins, chocolate pudding, a really big bowl of shreddies cereal, lots of coffee, some prune juice, a pear, apple, banana, some pasta and some potatoe chips.... not all in one day!  Oh heavens no!!!   But this is what I consumed since Monday.  Sad, so sad.

I'm mentally kicking myself in the butt.  Tomorrow morning I'm going to go for a long walk then climb a mountain of stairs to get myself back on my horse.  I've come this far... lost 6 pounds since the beginning of March and I have no intention of gaining it all back.

Ok, there, now I feel better!  I don't feel like a guilty crook any more!

App Obsessed

I'm obsessed with apps. I only have an apple ipod touch (and not the iphone-that I don't need) but I've loaded this ipod with many apps and I keep trying new ones! I've got an ereader app, the blogger app of course, the pinterest app and the facebook app too. I've also got apps to help me with my health kick like the one that logs my weight and calorie intake and one that helps me exercise even though it leaves me hanging way far from home! I'm afraid to log onto the app store because I may be tempted to check out some more. I've also heard there was an app to let you know when a paid app is available free of charge for a specific day! Wow if I knew which one that was I'd most certainly have it!

Youth Is Wasted On The Young

I remember when I was young, I'd hear adults say "youth is wasted on the young".  Never was too sure why they'd say that or even what it ment.  Well, I guess it's safe to say that once you reach somewhere-up-there in age and you see some young folks "wasting their lives" or "throwing away their education" .... the saying comes straight forward to mind!

I'm not too sure whether or not, if it were possible, that I'd go back in time and do everything again.  I may be tempted to change a few things and end up altering how my present time ends up in the new future... if that made sense.  Besides, I'm pretty much content with the way my life is now even though it was a strugle to get here...only wish I'd studied more in French class to be fluently bilingual being as I live in Quebec.  But then I stop and say to myself, I'm never too old to learn the language so get to it!

I can't believe it took me this long to actually decide... yes DECIDE to take my health seriously.  In my younger days I did NOT eat healthy unless Mom cooked it.  I did NOT exercise unless I was graded for it in gymclass or it counted as extra credit on one of the high school teams.  I wouldn't go so far to say I was lazy but I do admit sometimes I see young folk that remind me of me when I was their age.... um... lazy?!,  sigh... for lack of another word I suppose.  I smile when I see young folk riding bikes or roller blading or jogging!  Sports that you don't get extra class credit for!

Thank our Lord that I'm not ill, just slightly over weight and with very lazy inner-pipes, other than that, I'm pretty good.  This past month I lost a total of six pounds.  I know that may not sound like much for one month but if it comes off slow, and the changes I make to my eating habits are not
"diet" related, but an overhaul of my eating habits.  I try harder to choose healthier foods by reading the labels looking for less sodium, less fat, highter fiber contents you know the biz.  I'm drinking more water, fell in love with prune juice and now that the outdoor market is open, I'm loaded up on fresh fruit and vegetables!  I should have no problem losing the next six pounds, and hopefully the next ten after that!

Oh to be young and carefree.... well I'm STIL young and just not so carefree, more like nowadays I actually take more notice of things around me.  I enjoyed my youth, I really did!  Now I'm enjoying the next chapter...

How He Loves Us

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

I finally purchased an ereader this weekend.  I went with the Sony touch though I was up in the air about which one to get so had to narrow down the field to three:

The Kindle Touch, Kobo Touch or Sony Touch.

The Kobo got ejected early in the running since it doesn't provide audio output so it's a no-go with audiobooks.

The Kindle, with it's 4gb storage was pretty descent but is 4gb really enough?  NOT FOR ME!

I went with the Sony, though it only has 2gb storage, it allows for removeable storage in the form of an SD card up to 32gb!  And it aslo has audio output.
