I Got This!

I've been sleep deprived for a while now.  Difficulties falling asleep are so annoying that I've set myself a bed time on the nights I work.  As long as I adhere to the schedule I should get enough shut eye and not have monster munchies.  I'm focusing a lot on sleep and water consumption.  I'm doing great with drinking 2 litres of water a day but failing miserably in the sleep department.  It's this ipad.  I have the bad habit of playing games, reading blogs or reading books on this thing when it should be turned off so I can sleep.  I don't suffer from FOMO, I just love this little gadget but I must train myself to leave it in another room and go to bed.

This week I began walking for fitness again.  It will be a while before I can jog instead but for now I need to build up my lungs and weak muscles in my hips and legs.  I'm positive about it which is a miracle in itself.  I'm back on my fitness horse and my first goal is to drop two whole pounds, once I accomplish that, I'll set another goal of five pounds and so on until the twenty pounds are history.

Mapped It Out

I haven't completely given up on dropping the weight before vacation time.  I admit I didn't just fall off the wagon, I rolled under the front wheels and let it roll over my bum.  And the extra pounds just bounced that wagon off!  Seriously, I ain't lying!  *wink*

Yes I have fallen but I can get up!

I've mapped out a 5km walking route that I'll take three times a week.  I'm going to make it exciting because I'll take pictures and post them on instagram so that should keep me motivated for hopefully more than one week.  I used a distance mapping tool found HERE (click the link and magically be transported to the website).  I intend to do the walk along with changing my eating.  I really have no choice to make some changes to my eating to keep my inner pipes happy and yes it includes not eating a ton of apple turnovers.  My inner pipes loved those apple turnovers so much that they refused to give them up!  Yup, those turnovers were hoarded in my pipes longer than necessary.

Metamucil to the rescue!

The Farmers Market opened for another season of business last week so I'll have easy access to affordable fresh fruit and vegetables so there will be no excuse.  Right now the grocery store is robbing me blind on fruits & veggies.

And last but not least I'm shopping for an activity/calorie counter.  I've got my eye on a fitbit.

Alrighty then.... now when will I start? I had intended to start on April 1st because it's the beginning of a new month and sure I can start now or on Monday but really I'm waiting for it to be a bit lighter out since I'll be doing the walk in the mornings rather than evenings.  So, as long as I have a plan, I'm not completely out of the game.

Cul De Sac

So here's the thing.  My diet or "road to better health" has hit a dead end.  The other day I had this thing for apple turnovers and I ate one to celebrate everything!  I had one to celebrate getting out of bed.  I had one to celebrate catching the bus on time.  I had another one celebrating the long line at the grocery store.  Ok I wasn't celebrating the long line but you get the picture.  I ate four apple turnovers in one day.

Oh but were they ever good!  Mmm..... They were so fresh and fluffy pastry and just a hint of cinnamon.

I know how many calories they were.  310 calories each.  SO WHAT!  I enjoyed each and every calorie.

I'm not going to beat myself up over eating so many.  I should but I'm not going to because it won't solve anything.  Besides, THEY WERE DELICIOUS!

A Minute In Susan's Mind

I've got a bit of arthritis in my left thumb and it's been giving me grief for the past two months.  I haven't been able to do any crafts for that period of time because holding a needle or an embroidery hoop is quite painful.  I'm backed up on the projects I should have had completed by now but they will get done because the pain and swelling had gone down.  I'm just left with a bit of stiffness but that too shall pass.

Twinings Tea: Pure Peppermint

I picked up a box of Twinings Pure Peppermint tea and when I compare it to the Celestial Seasonings brand that I usually purchase, I must say, Twinings wins!

Why?  Well, because the bag in individually wrapped.  They are very nicely sealed and it keeps the flavour in the bag.  The Celestial Seasonings is not individaully wrapped, rather they have 20 bags (two bags stuck together in a pile of ten) wrapped together in wax paper/bag inside the box.  If you do not re-roll that bag after taking out some tea, then the mint scent escapes and the tea loses its flavour.

Now comes my problem... and my solution!   The problem with Twinings tea is that the grocery store just jacked up the price to $5.19 a box of 20.  The selection grew but so did the price.  I'm not sure how I feel about that.  Anyway, the tea is also available on Amazon and with free shipping on orders of $25 I can pick up a few flavours and not have to worry about the shipping!

See, the brain games helped my brain figure that one out!

Addictive Brain Games

I've been keeping my brain exercised from time to time by playing games.  I know, I make it sound educational or something eh!  Ha!   But seriously, I find that the further ahead I get in Candy Crush, the more I have to think.  I'm not too fond of games that make me think.   I just want to play and have fun but I'm currently on level 488 of Candy Crush and it may appear to be an easy level but there are only so many moves to complete the puzzle and therefore I have to think of what moves I'll make.

Oh but wait, I'm not a Candy Crush addict... nope.  I also play Angry Birds.  It drives me nuts but I have to think of where I'm going to fire the bird in order to dislodge the piggie.   Yup, fun times.

Peppermint Tea

I've spent the better half of this weekend enjoying peppermint tea.  Nice and hot.  I've never tried any other brand only Celestial Seasonings when it comes to peppermint tea.  I've spotted some infusion flavours in other brands that I may have to sample but I must say, this brand of simple peppermint tea is very smooth and enjoyable.

Fear Of The Scale

Saturday morning is my weigh in day.  Every Saturday morning I am sure to step on that scale and be blown away by the never moving number and then the discouraged attitude returns.   I'm afraid of the scale.  I need to weigh in but this week I tried to watch my intake but went over s bit calorie wise.  I didn't eat bad foods but I did go over my count with fruit snacks.

I an keeping myself encouraged by telling myself that as soon as the weather warms up I can head for walks then ease into jigging again.  Maybe even take my camera out and snap some pics.

This was a long winter and it isn't over yet!  I just need to make it into spring... Real spring weather... Then perhaps I'll diet better.

Crochet Pants

Ok, so I was scrolling through Tumblr and spotted these photos for crochet pants and crochet shorts.  I'm sure they're cool to wear during those hot summer months being all ventilated and whatnot like crochet is.

All I can say is.... if I saw my husband wearing any of these... I'd probably laugh myself to death!  No lie.  I mean seriously, stare at these shorts, then stare at your mate and picture him (or her) in a pair of these.  I picture my husband in the red ones on the far right, probably with a pair of sweat socks on and some sandals with a torn tank top.  Ok, I'm laughing so hard now I'm crying...  so imagine if he were to really dress like that in real life.... DEAD!

Audiobook Craze

I'm going crazy for audiobooks lately.  I find I breeze through work while listening to them.  I'm about to get started on my 9th book this year!

I just finished listening to Fall Of Night (book 2 of Dead Of Night by Jonathan Maberry).  This was an apocalypse end of the world type book about a zombie take over and it picked up right where the first book left off.  I loved it!!!  When is the movie version going to be made?  Do I need to list the cast members?

I'm still struggling to finish The King by JR Ward.  It's a lot slower than the last 9 books in that Brotherhood series so I've been nibbling at that book since it was released!  Sad but true.

I've actually been going through all the songs on my ipod to make space for audiobooks!

Bucket List Not Required

It was suggested that I need a bucket list.  Not sure why, because it's not like I'd include sky diving or other exciting and life threatening things on it.  Realistically, I think I've pretty much done what counts.

I've made folks smile.
I've travelled a bit: rode a train, plane, bike, car, speed boat, ship, and roller skates.
I've danced in the rain even though nobody seen me do it.
I've eaten chocolate and did not in any way, feel guilty for doing it.
I've fallen in love...albeit more than once but eventually it was with Mr Right.
I've even baked a cake, pie and cookies completely from scratch! I know right? I can't believe it either!

So what else is there?

Learn to drive?  Nope, too easily distracted, that's an accident waiting to happen.
Have kids? Nope, I somehow never received the "mommy-gene".
Bake bread from scratch? Ha ha, sure I should give that a whirl just for laughs!

How Susan's Going To Get Her Groove Back

I didn't do well in the health and fitness department during the month of February.  I failed miserably.  I lost one whole pound in one month.

Just one.

Sad but true.

I'm anxious to get back into jogging but I usually feel this way at this time of year because of being trapped indoors.  I'm not a winter runner.  I don't have the experience nor do I have the clothing for it.  I'm hoping that warmer temperatures are around the bend but not so I can go jogging, more so I can start off walking.  It'd be nice to take a long brisk walk each day for exercise and to build up my lungs for when it's jogging time.  After being sick with the flu, my lungs feel like they really took a beating.  Even if it were warm enough for me to jog, I'd probably cough up a lung during the first lap on the track.

I'm going to get my groove back...

I'm going to do a complete overhaul of my refrigerator and cupboards of all the junky stuff and fill up on fruits, nuts, vegetables and yogurt.  It's a big plan and I have absolutely no faith in myself whatsoever that I shall succeed but I do have twenty five pounds that I need to drop before September and the one thing I know for sure is that once I get to Jogging, the weight will come off quickly just like it did when I first started jogging.  I just need to get a head start on eating healthier.  And I suppose I can squeeze in some short exercise videos.

I'm looking forward to a fresh start in March and yes I will actually blog weekly updates!!!

Wait a minute... TODAY IS MARCH!!!!
