Fitness Challenge Contestant

I'm about to begin week six of the no junk food challenge.  As mentioned before, it was supposed to be a three week challenge and let me reiterate that the first week was hell on wheels but I had the list memorized to tell myself what I cannot have.  By week three it was just the norm.  I'd survived the tough period of the 21 days and anything thereafter is just because it keeps me on track.  I'm afraid if I give in and have an apple turnover, I'll end up eating all four from the box.  I know 100% that will be the case because I'm still greedy like that eh.  Then again, if I don't eat anything else the entire day I can get away with the calorie count.  Or if I really REALLY exercise that day....

No!  Not happening!!!

I only lost 0.2 pounds this week much to my dismay.  I am happy that I didn't gain anything since I went overboard on the turkey bacon.  See, here's the thing.  I walk home from work in the morning....I go the long way so it a total of 5.2km or so.  At one point I pass this home that always has the scent of bacon coming from it so after a while, I stopped off at the grocery store and picked up a pack of turkey bacon by Butterball.  I scarfed that down in three days!  I then picked up a pack of chicken bacon by Maple Lodge.  It had more protein and less calories per two pieces but didn't crisp up like the turkey bacon did so after I scarfed down that pack of bacon, I purchased another pack of turkey bacon.  See where I'm going with this?  It's a healthy food but half the pack isn't supposed to be a meal.  So, having said that, no more turkey bacon.

I was skimming the instagram again for more motivation on exercise and I came across a user @fearlesslyfightingfood who was doing a 30 day fitness challenge   She said the challenge was kicking her butt so I figured, hey, why not take on a 30 day fitness challenge too.  I surfed the google and found the fitness challenge that the instagram user was participating in and printed it.

I also printed up another one with jumping jacks because I like how they make my back fat or bra fat (whatever you want to call it) scream in pain.  Credit for the fitness challenge can be found on the image itself.

As for the jumping jack challenge, I'm doing them as modified jacks.  No jumping up and down for me or my boobs.  Initially, I was going to start both of these on June 1st which coincidentally is a Monday, but then I said to myself; "Get a mitt and get in the game", and started the challenges right away and Friday, May 29th was my day one!  Even though the chart is listed as an August challenge, I'm just going to follow along as day 1 to 30.  No way on planet earth am I going to do 700 jacks!
I had my husband rub my bra fat with muscle pain ointment because dang if it don't hurt like crazy mad.  Wait, I haven't told him yet that it'll be his official husbandly duty for thirty days.  Ha!

Liquid Leafy Greens

I did it.  I made that tropical green smoothie and I must say, the pineapple did cut the grassy spinach taste.  It did taste tropical.  I need buy some tiny drink umbrellas to put in my next one.  Drinking it made me feel like I was back in the southern caribbean on a cruise or something... Ok maybe not but it was pretty good.

My old school blender was happy to be put to use again.  I'll probably make another one tomorrow.  I didn't have frozen pineapple so I just bought canned pineapple chunks.  I can freeze them in an ice cube tray along with some of the juice it's packed in do I won't need to add two ice cubes like I did today.

I was a bit afraid to drink it being as it had lots of green leafies and coconut almond milk that I've never tasted.  And yes, my obsession with mason jars still stands.

Still Going...

I'm about to being the fifth week of the no junk challenge.  The challenge was typically for only three weeks and let me tell you, the first two weeks I was miserable, grumpy, cranky, withdrawn, you name it, that was me.  I disabled the comment section so you can't name it but I know what you're thinking eh!  Ha!

The first week I unknowingly memorized the list from the challenge.   Every time I walked pass the dollar store and heard the crispy crunch chocolate bars call out to me, my mind would yell back NO CHOCOLATE.

Every time I walked pass A&W or McDonalds and heard the fries holler at me, my mind yelled back NO FAST FOOD.

I even made my husband finish off all the white bread and from then on, started buying only whole wheat bread (Villagio & Italiano are my faves).

I did have one small muffin the other day but that's only because it looked good smelled good and was begging me to taste it was home made.

So I've come well past the 21 days and decided to continue on, with no more temptations.

Wherefore Art Thou Kale

Yesterday morning I spent almost twenty whole minutes in the vegetable section of the grocery store.

I was looking for Kale.

I had no clue what kale was and therefore had to read the name of each and every vegetable that I was unfamiliar with in order to find it.  Sad but true.  Now had I been awake long enough to consider googling an image of it, I would have had better luck finding it faster instead of squinting to read the label on a bunch of green leafy bunches of bush.

I did find it though!!  yay!

Its still a bouquet of bushes.  boo!

I also bought baby spinach, pineapple and coconut flavoured almond milk.  I have never tasted the coconut flavoured almond milk... then again, I've never tasted plain old almond milk either.

The reason I made such a purchase was because I'll be joining the #teamgreenstache movement as promoted by Stasia on Instagram (click the link to be beamed over) she's really got me motivated to lose weight.  She's lost a lot and had much more to go and she's so positive about it.  I wanted a sweet tasting green recipe and I stumbled on the green tropical smoothie from Cheryl over at That's What Che Said (click the link and be beamed over).  I've had green smoothies before, and they just taste like I'm eating grass or tree leaves.  I really hope this recipe does have a tropical taste to it but either way, tomorrow afternoon I'll be making it and photographing my green stache.

Now here's the thing, Cheryl has a visual on how to put together the smoothie using a single serving blender like a Bullet or whateverthefrance the other one is called.  I, on the other hand, do not own one of those, nor do I intend to waste hard earned money on one when I've got an old school ghetto Osterizer Pulsematic. That there bad boy can cut through ice and frozen strawberries like nothing!  I grew up with that guy sitting on the kitchen counter and when I moved out I asked Mom for it and she said yup.  Thanks Mom!!!

Here is the recipe for the Tropical Green Smoothie (as posted on That's What Che Said)

  • 1 cup kale, chopped
  • 1 cup baby spinach
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup vanilla coconut milk
  • Blend ingredients until smooth and creamy. If needed, add more coconut milk to thin smoothie.

Ok, granted she said use coconut milk and I was so tired of being in that store searching for the kale, I just opted for coconut almond milk, I'll post an update on the taste eventually.

Free Tee

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a box of cereal and it had a tee shirt giveaway promotion.  All I had to do, aside from buy the cereal, was get the code printed on the inside of the box and go to the designated website to enter the code along with my address and tee shirt selection.  There were four different shirts to choose from.

This photo is the one I picked for my husband who insisted I wasn't going to get anything in the mail!  It's a large adult size, green with the lucky charms guy saying Feeling Lucky.

The shirt is 100% cotton, made by Fruit of the Loom, very good quality.  The print on the front, however is beyond substandard.  It's so faded and weakly done by ink transfer that I doubt the design will last through a couple of washes.

Hard At Work

Well, this site is still a work in progress.  I've updated the ABOUT ME page so feel free to take a look at it and find out some interesting info, just click the ABOUT ME tab at the top of the page.

I've also updated my status on the 2015 reading challenge so you can see that info by clicking the tab at the top of the page that indicates the challenge and you'll get to see how far I've progressed, and which books I've read so far.

I'm currently in the process of updating some of the tag labels on a few of the old posts to help generate some traffic, but also to help better describe what the post was about then I'll be adding a search bar.  I've also got to go through some of my old vacation posts and remove the video because I also changed their location!

My hope is to get this site completely up to speed by the end of Monday night.  However, I have to be patient with the related posts widget because it has over 800 blog posts to scroll before it appears on my blog, or at least that's what I'm told.  I'm going to give it a week, if it still acts up I'm not sure what I'll do about that but I'm sure I can find something.

Weightloss With Instagram

I've found quite a few folks on Instagram documenting their fat to fit transformations.  I've even started following a handful of them too.  I'm often scrolling through the Instagram news feed and having motivating images on health and weightloss be included seems to be keeping me on track.  There are countless ladies (and men too) who's starting weight is well above mine but the progress they've made in three and four months is encouraging.  I am a victim of the need-to-lose-it-now mentality.  I want to lose weight but I also want to lose it over night and that's just not possible.  These ladies also remind me of that.

If you're on Instagram, and currently on your own weightloss journey, check out these ladies (click the links to see their instagrams)

From Fat To Fit

I did fairly well with the walking this week.  As I may have mentioned, I mapped out a new longer route to walk home from work on a daily basis.  The good thing about it is I still have access to a bus in case the weather turns bad or I get too tired to continue.

Last week I walked the 5km route home twice and one day I walked 2.5km and jumped on the bus the rest of the way home because I had to pee.  I also did 100 jumping jacks two days last week and jogged one day.  Not bad for week one.

This past week I walked the 5km route home three days and then I also walked 2.5km to work on two of those days as well for a total of 7.5km and that my dear, gave me the 10,000 steps I was so desperately seeking.  I also did plenty of regular walking without mapping the distance or counting steps on two more days.

I really don't want to count the walking or steps that I do that are not on the days I walk to and from work because I don't really count "just walking" as "exercise walking" though I am burning calories, those will just be extra for now.  I'm hoping this coming week I can do the 7.5km daily total on each day I work but with it looking like rain and thunder showers, it'll be highly unlikely, so I'm going to also start back with some livingroom aerobics and weight lifting.

I'm still keeping up with the 21 day challenge to not eat selected junky items and believe me, each time I get the urge to have a snack or something, that list pops back into my mind and I recite the things I should not have.  I'm hoping to keep myself going with this list longer than three weeks.

The plan this week is to eat more fruit and vegetables and completely cut out rice.  I love rice so much though!  Small steps to a big change.  I don't want to lose weight, I want to get rid of it and not find it again!!

I did weigh in this week and measured myself. The weight went up but the measurements went down so I may be doing something right somewhere, or so I'm told.  I'm also going to fast on Monday to reset my inner pipes.

A Minute In Susan's Mind

Like pretty much everyone on the planet who hasn't been hiding underneath s rock, I've tested out that guess my age site that Microsoft posted.  It was given such hoopla last week on the radio with the announcers joking how in some cases it's really missing the mark.

I uploaded a photo of myself that is widely used on my social media profiles simply because I'm too lazy to take different photos and it's too daunting a task to upload a different one to each site Eh.  Anyway. The site guessed my age as 23 years old.  Hmm, I won't complain, sure I'll take that compliment thank you very much but I'm not 23, I'm 46,  I don't feel 23, I feel 83. And I don't act 23, I act 12 so there you have it.
